Flipkart will enter the food delivery business, increasing the tension of Zomato-Swiggy!
Flipkart is poised to challenge Zomato and Swiggy's dominance in the online food delivery market very soon. The company will initially begin testing with ONDC integration on a limited scale, followed by a larger rollout based on customer feedback.
Zomato and Swiggy currently dominate the food delivery business, but Flipkart is also preparing to enter this segment soon.
This could pose a tough competition for Zomato, Swiggy, and other companies operating in this sector. Recently, it was revealed that the company will soon enter India's rapidly growing online food delivery market.
Initially, it will be launched at a limited level.
Kalyan Krishnamurthy, Chief Executive Officer of Flipkart Group, said in an interview with Moneycontrol, "We will launch food delivery in the next few weeks.
We will test the value proposition with customers, gather feedback, and continue to refine the product until it truly resonates with customers. After that, we will begin to scale it."
Initially, the launch will be limited, then it will be rolled out on a larger scale. This reflects the strategy adopted by Flipkart with its quick commerce business, Flipkart Minutes.
Krishnamurthy said, "It will be a combination of a separate app and you will also be able to find it on the Flipkart app." He did not provide details about branding or the launch city at this time.
Integration with ONDC
According to sources, Flipkart is launching a food delivery offering as part of its integration with the government-backed Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC).
Krishnamurthy declined to comment on how Flipkart's food delivery offerings will be rolled out. Flipkart's entry comes at a time when several players are experimenting with different models to gain a foothold in India's food delivery market.
Rapido also brought its own platform
Rapido, a ride-hailing startup, recently launched its proprietary platform. The company's strategy is to bring millions of new users online, using affordable pricing, zero restaurant commissions, and a large logistics network to compete for existing customers rather than compete for them.
